Running a sticker business is like being a bartender for the internet. People stumble in with wild ideas, drop some chaotic energy in our inbox, and walk out with something that will make strangers on the road either laugh hysterically or shake their heads in disappointment. We love making funny bumper stickers and decals that start conversations, but sometimes, we get a request so legendary, it deserves its own Hall of Fame. And nothing—nothing—tops the saga of the “I Got My Ass Ate in the Buc-ee’s Bathroom” sticker.
When a Funny Decal Turned Into a Corporate Showdown
One day, an absolute genius (or menace, depending on your sense of humor) slid into our DMs with a request: “I Got My Ass Ate in the Buc-ee’s Bathroom.” Now, if you’ve ever been to a Buc-ee’s, you know two things: 1) their bathrooms are cleaner than most people’s homes, and 2) they take their brand more seriously than a dad takes his freshly mowed lawn.
We knew we had to make it. We designed it, slapped it on the site, and watched as it took off faster than a Texas-sized beaver in a hurricane. It became one of our top-selling funny bumper stickers overnight, popping up on cars, laptops, and—we assume—at least one Buc-ee’s bathroom stall.
But then… Buc-ee’s corporate got involved.
How a Buc-ee’s Manager Snitched on Our Sticker
One fateful day, a Buc-ee’s manager spotted the sticker on some poor soul’s car in a Georgia parking lot. And let me tell you, this man was not in the mood for jokes. He demanded the customer take the sticker off immediately, as if it was some sort of cursed artifact that would bring shame upon the entire beaver empire.
The customer, being a real one, refused. Instead, they messaged us personally like, “Yo, heads up—Buc-ee’s is MAD.”
At first, we laughed. Like, come on, it’s satire. Also, is a Buc-ee's manager really going to DO anything? Everyone and their grandma slaps the Buc-ee’s logo on memes. But Buc-ee’s doesn’t play. And soon enough, we learned just how serious they were about their pristine, family-friendly reputation...
When Buc-ee’s Corporate Came A-Knockin'
A few days later, we got a cease-and-desist letter from Buc-ee’s corporate. Not a polite “hey, could you maybe not?” No, no. This was a full-on legal threat demanding we take the sticker down immediately. They wanted it erased from existence, like a banned episode of a cartoon that went too hard. They even wanted us to send them our extra prints (we had none).
We debated fighting it (because, again, satire) but ultimately decided it wasn’t worth going to war with an angry, litigious beaver. We pulled the design, shed a single tear, and moved on.
We Get So Many Funny Requests, We Made a Contest!
This whole saga made us realize something: y’all are unhinged, and we love you for it. We get ridiculous requests every single week, from political satire that would make a senator spit out their coffee to stickers that are so niche, even we have to Google the reference.
So, instead of just picking and choosing the weirdest ideas ourselves, we launched the Frog Mustard Sticker Stars contest—a monthly design competition where our fans get to submit their best (or worst) ideas. If we pick your design, we make it into a real sticker or magnet, and you get one for free! It’s our way of giving back and letting the community help shape the madness that is Frog Mustard.
The Buc-ees Saga is still a reminder though for why we have to tread lightly when it comes to logos or company-owned IP (intellectual property) - we try to avoid it.
